The Nintendo Wii really is a versatile piece of hardware.
I mean, when it comes to controllers, there are pretty much four different types.

I guess I have no choice but implement them all!

There’s no need to be confused about what does what—just choose the play style you prefer!

I suppose I would recommend the Nintendo GameCube controller, though. I like the feel of that powerful rumble.

Still, try out the other controls—they definitely give you a fresh experience.

Hmm? How do you do smashes and dashes with just the Wii Remote?
If I get the chance to tell you, I will.

So, after nearly 3 years of using the Wiimote to play Brawl, I've finally bought some GameCube controllers this Christmas and have made a leap back my old--really old--style. Having to unlearn my now intuitive control scheme used over the years is quite a feat...I feel like I'm playing this game for the first time, haha. The most difficult part now is relearning how to immediately attack after jumping - my finger placement causes an annoying delay.  I'm seriously loving using the C-stick now, though. I haven't seen characters from my side of the TV use their standard Up-A attack in years...

Yeah, I just use the wiimote.  Having skipped Melee, I never really used the gamecube controller.  It just feels awkward to me.  Wiimote is a much more natural step from the 64 controller.

Yeah, I can see how that could be. One thing I loved about the Wiimote was its simplicity.

In my case, however, the "standard" controller form (and button combinations) has forever been ingrained in my psyche. I've always had difficulty adjusting to games that used different controllers or bizarre button combinations - sometimes causing me to just play a different game instead.

I'm just hoping that using the GCN controllers again will help me up my game. I was an absolute beast in Melee. I'm not sure if the differing controllers were much of a factor or not, but it's worth a shot. And so far I'm getting the hang of them! I'm already pulling low-rise Lightning Kicks!

I like the gamecube controls, it makes me think of the Melee, possibly my favorite GC game ever!

btw, just wondering, does anyone else really like replaying games that you've already beat from the very start? :O

It really depends on the game and its replay-ability and length. Brawl, Melee and even Smash Bros are fun to play again and again, all on the Wii. Longer games, it really is more about seeing the story unfold again. If you look at my current wii games:

SMG: I barely have the time to finish this game...still not yet done, and I still have Luigi to play
SMG2: What more SMG2...
Other M: Just finished it. Don't plan on doing it again given theater mode. Tempted however to do the ending sequence again so I could use Zero Suit Samus.
Twilight Princess: Finished a long time ago, sometimes play with my nephew's file for kicks.
WSports: Never play it without Wii newbies so, don't play it at all
WSportsResort: Play it with my nephews
WPlay: Abandoned game
WFit: Abandoned game for Plus
WFitPlus: Used everyday as exercise tool. Didn't gain much weight during holidays because of it.
Brawl: Play it with my nephews, don't go online much anymore.
MKW: Play it online more but also with nephews
Sonic ZG: Abandoned game since finishing (not completed)
ExciteTruck: Abandoned game
SMBBB: Abandoned game just because I'm lazy to charge my batteries, and my nephews usually forget to bring their nunchuks
and I'm still waiting for Skyward Sword, which would be a priority.

Speaking of the topic and controls. I guess it really boils down to muscle memory. I haven't played Brawl in ages and MKW, I usually used the nunchuk. But didn't feel bad using the GCN controller again for both games. This is of course relating it to the many different controls that I had to get used to:

SMG: Nunchuk
SMG2: Nunchuk
Other M: Side wiimote and pointer wiimote
Twilight Princess:Nunchuk
WSports: Movement wiimote
WSportsResort: Movement wiimote plus
WPlay: Wiimote
WFit: Movement wiimote and board
WFitPlus: Movement wiimote and board
MKW: Nunchuk
Brawl: GCN Controller
Sonic ZG: GCN Controller
ExciteTruck: Side wiimote
SMBBB: Movement wiimote/nunchuk

It gets tricky sometimes though when you play them in succession, and for games like Brawl, MKW and Sonic, switching to a different controller has its "getting-used-to-it-for-a-little-bit-again" stage.

if the game is fun (though Chrono Cross and Starcraft are the only ones I think I beat more than three times)

@DJ what's SMBB?

Nope. Just some Mega Man games. I'm a perfectionist so I don't like to replay games that require lots of time to gather items and complete through-and-through.

@DJ what's SMBB?

SMBBB stands for Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz, I think.
