There'll be a fair few unlockable characters, maybe one more starter, and there's a rumour going around that there'll be another 3rd party brawler, but I'm not sure how backed up it is. Sakurai would probably reveal third parties earlier on though to increase the hype.

I think he didn't list sheik because she's not likely a different character (although I think she probably will be)

I think that the last 3rd party character will be announced closer to launch time.  So far they've been announced at major events, and releasing this information, say 2 weeks before game time will get people talking again, which increases sales.

I agree that Jigglypuff, Luigi, Ness, and Falcon will be back but there are some in there i don't know about. IMO i don't see Dr. Mario, Pichu, Young Link, and maybe Falco returning for this one. Unless Sakurai has the moveset revamped then they wont be back. Game n' Watch is iffy and Mewtwo will hopefully be back with a much better moveset. Ganondorf i think we can all saftely assume will be back and kicking much ass.

Well zeldas move set isnt revealed yet either, so sheik will probably be announced when zeldas moves are announced.

(assuming they dont give zss a roster spot, and assuming sheik is part of zelda still)

so ive got about 44 ish, considering they accept every character ive mentioned, not counting any japan only games reps that might be put in. all in all, my guess is that the roster count would be about 35-38 rather than 45. (unless ive missed something really big)...
