ganon appears in LZ , AL , LP , LA , OT , FS , WW , TP , PH .
this is more than the number of games in which ganondorf appears .
Isn't Ganon just a form of Ganondorf? Ganondorf turns into Ganon at the end of OoT, no?

Also I found this picture that seems to explain tihs timeline:

ganondorf didn't exist until the 5th game was released . the earliest reference to a nameless human thief that became ganon was in the third game , the thief never actually appearing . ganon appeared in every game up to and including the 5th .

Demise is NOT more important than Ganondorf.  Not at all.  Ganon is and always will be an iconic villain in the series.
But Demise is important in the sense that his hate is what makes Ganon a reality.  Pretty literally, I think.

<<SPOILER WARNING?!?SPOILER WARNING>>
"My hate...never perishes.  It is born anew in a cycle with no end!  I will rise again!  Those like you... Those who share the blood of the goddess and the spirit of the hero... They are eternally bound to this curse.  An incarnation of my hatred shall ever follow your kind, dooming them to wander a blood-soaked sea of darkness for all time!"

In that sense, Demise is pretty important.  But Ganondorf caused a lot more turmoil and lasted much longer than his predecessor.

Also, SS Link seems to be the most powerful Link.  Or at least the luckiest.  Not sure.  But he actually gets all 3 pieces of the Triforce.

I will quote OoT:
"If the heart of the one who holds the sacred triangle has all three forces in balance, that one will gain the True Force to govern all."

SS Link accomplished this.

"But, if that one's heart is not in balance, the Triforce will separate into three parts: Power, Wisdom, and Courage."

This is what happened in OoT.  We all know how that story goes.

SS Link=Most badass?  I think so.

<<SPOILER END?!?SPOILER END>>

According to this Ganon has been revived multiple times.  He may be defeated, but he always seems to find a way back.  We certainly haven't seen the last of him.  Personally I'd like to see a game that fits somewhere along Timeline A.  Ganon is still awaiting revival in that one.  Although, he could be revived in any timeline when you think about it.
I have heard that the next Zelda is planned for the 3DS.  I wonder what they plan to do in that game...

Ganondorf is the holder of the Triforce of Power how can you say he isnt a main character of the series?

With the timeline, I decided to study if Ganondorf really is the main character or not. What I gathered is that it's not because he's the holder of the Triforce of Power. It's because he's the ultimate villain. In FSA, Ganondorf is even reincarnated and controls Vaati. This game is the connection of the Four Sword Trilogy with the Triforce Saga.

Interesting though, Ganondorf really isn't present in half of the games. To note:
Skyward Sword - Ganondorf's past life
Link's Awakening - OoX direct sequel
Majora's Mask - OoT direct sequel
Phantom Hourglass - TWW direct sequel
The Minish Cap and Four Swords - Vaati
Spirit Tracks - Malladus

I could divide the timeline into three: The Triforce Saga, The Four Sword Trilogy and New Hyrule. Ganondorf is the main antagonist of the Triforce Saga, Vaati is the main antagonist of the Four Sword Trilogy (but is overruled by Ganondorf) and Malladus is the main antagonist of New Hyrule.

OK, so overall, Ganondorf is the main antagonist. My bad. :-P
