Unsurprisingly, Nintendo is developing a Mario game for the 3DS! It was revealed during GDC '11 (which took place this morning) by Satoru Iwata. Nintendo EAD Tokyo, the developers of the Mario Galaxy series, are developing this title. Mr. Iwata promised that more information would be revealed during E3.

The name Super Mario is temporary, as is the logo above. Interestingly, the O in MARIO has a tail. Many people are speculating the return of the Raccoon/Tanooki suits of Super Mario Bros. 3.



In addition to the temporary logo, Nintendo also released 4 screenshots of the game. It seems like the game is going to be more Super Mario 64-ish, but with Super Mario Galaxy elements, especially considering Nintendo is constantly mentioning how Super Mario 64 was the first game that brought Mario into the 3D world.

Overall, I'm extremely excited for this game. Definitely one of my most anticipated 3DS games. What are your thoughts about the game? Can't wait till E3! Grin

GASP aaaaah. Way too many good games coming out. This will be a must buy for me. I loved Super Mario 64.

I can't wait for this game. The tail on the O possibly being related to super mario bros 3 doesn't excite me as much because i only got to play that game a little and it from what I seen it was just a cooler version of super mario bros 2.

I have a friend who actually can't stand the 3D Mario Games like 64 and Galaxy.  Mainly because they felt so different from the side-scrolling platformers.
I wonder if he would enjoy this since it's a 3D game with the classic Mario look?

Well, you can think of Paper Mario as a sidescroller platformer that's 2D but presented in 3D ;-P And then you have Super Mario Bros. Wii, which is full on 3D sidescroller.
