I've always hated anime. Besides watching the Pokemon TV show back in the day when I was like 12 because I love the games so much, I've always dissed anmie. When people wore their Naruto headbands to school, Bleach shirts, and played Yu-Gi-Oh. This weekend my friend wanted me to watch Coyboy Bebop with him. I was making fun of him and his weird japanese shows, laughing, but I agreed to watch it just for a few giggles and more reasons to make fun of it. Then he turned on the TV and showed me his favorite episode. This episode in particular I had no idea what was going on, who the characters were, why they were fighting. But something made me shed a few tears, laugh, and fall in love with this show. I went out and rented the 1st season on dvd. I haven't watched it yet but... perhaps I've found anime I've finally liked and next time ill think again before making fun of it :| |

Be careful. Anime can be just as good or bad as Cartoons. Shonen Jump for instance is the DC Comics of Japan. It has VERY cliche and VERY boring characters. Also, it's overrated to hell compared to any game put together (except FFVII). If you want to see a "good" anime, just go for the lesser known ones and make sure you find one under a genre you might like.
I will warn you on another thing. Animes are notorious for sexist symbols and fan-service. Even shows for young girls over there make Spongebob look "straight" and that's an understatement.
I also advise to AVOID SHONEN JUMP AT ALL COSTS (I.E. NARUTO, NARUTO, NARUTO, BLEACH, NARUTO, AND NARUTO).

oh come on. Shonen Jump isn't all THAT bad. I love Hikaru No Go, Rurouni Kenshin, Death Note, and One Piece. But other then those titles, go along with Juan's advice with the lesser known anime. But yeah Sarah, I've heard somewhere that Cowboy Bebop is the anime everyone likes even if they aren't anime fans. |

Only classics like YuYu Hakusho, DBZ, Rurouni Kenshin, JoJo's Bizzare Adventure, Fist of the North Star, Saint Seiya, Yugioh (classic series), and current ones like Bobobo deserve recognition from that cliche-ass company. Also, Square Enix has some published series as well. They're semi-popular compared to Shonen Jump, though they're still annoyingly hogging all the attention. My other suggestion is asking people who watch A LOT of anime and at the same time DO NOT watch any made or serialized by Shonen Jump or Square Enix as those are as common as Shakespeare stories. I didn't like Cowbow Bebop that much to be honest. It doesn't even feel like an anime. It's so static... It's not a bad anime but it's not my cup of tea. The feel is slow. I prefer Outlaw Star for nostalgia effect. Not the best anime but it was enjoyable for me. |

I haven't gotten into Cowboy Bebop yet...I probably should soon. Also, if you want another anime to laugh your ass off at Sarah would probably be High School of the Dead. There's so much fan service in that show, it's like, the second most important thing in the show xD

hmm... I think Bleach is pretty okay, but I agree that there are a lot of companies who make anime that are better than Shonen Jump, but, for instance, look in your school library, and you will mostly see Shonen Jump, so it's harder to find good, not mainstream mangas... one that I got into recently that's pretty good is Hellsing... and my girlfriend lent me Jing: King of Bandits, both are pretty good series
