Woah, this feels weird... I haven't made a topic in such a LONG time. I was checking the forum if this topic had been made and apparently it hasn't.
Anyway, I'm actually surprised that they're remaking the game that started it all (for me). After porting it so many times (GCN: Master Quest and Collector's Edition and Wii), they're now going to do it for a portable console. But I'm wondering how much of the 3D controls would be implemented and how different would that feel. Would playing the ocarina be fun? If I'm sold with the control system of Skyward Sword, I'm not so sure with this one yet. But according to the interview with Aonuma, it seems that they really are trying to make the controls seem more immersible for the player as they're doing for Skyward Sword.
But it feels great that they're bringing the game to a whole new generation. It'll allow my nephews a chance to finally see why Zelda is such a great game. They do have Phantom Hourglass but they don't play it. I let them try Twilight Princess but they're still not akin to the puzzle solving of it. I hope that OoT 3DS would sell Zelda to them.
One thing though, if they're retelling the story, I wonder if it could ever give more hints as to how the timeline is really constructed. Maybe it would give insight as to how Wind Waker, Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword comes in, although we do have the general idea.
Graphics-wise, it's interesting that the character models have been to refined to look a bit more realistic but with a vibrant color that is similar to Skyward Sword. The green I remember was pretty much a dark green and yet the green of Link's tunic is much brighter. The style is similar to the graphics of that demo of a Zelda game, which was replaced and made into Twilight Princess. But I have to admit, the art direction gives both nostalgia and a certain freshness to it.

yeah, this looks pretty cool.
It wouldn't be the reason for me to get a 3DS, but if I had one, then I might just get it.

Watch this game get flamed by OOT fans saying either the following: "Pfft, this game sucks! It's NOTHING like the original!"
"It's oooookaaaaaay, but still nothing compared to the original..."
"It's a GREAT game! Just nothing next to the original." jk jk I might buy it just to try it But yes. Overrated game is overrated.

Can you really declare a game overrated if you've never played it before??

I seriously can't. I'm wondering though, if Ocarina of Time was released AFTER Twilight Princess, do you think either WW or TP would have been as successful, and would any of them be given the best Zelda game ever title, or would OoT still have it?

Well if OoT was released after TP then that'd be a big step down graphics wise lol. But as a story and gameplay Ocarina of Time was just incredible. It beats TP IMO, but every gamer is different. Each Zelda brings something totally different, that's why fans favorite LoZs are always different.

Hey-hey-hey. I said I would give it a try Besides, it's not like I'm comparing it to FF7. At least OOT has reasons to be great, according to people. I'm just saying that nearly everyone deems it the best game to ever come out in existence of gaming (besides Super Mario Bros.).

LOL, I was saying that given the implication that the graphics of OoT would have been more like TP and vice versa. :-P But I do agree, every gamer regards a different Zelda as their favorite and that's why it is one of the most successful franchises. Tell you the truth, IMO, what makes TP and WW great is how they stem from OoT. I consider the two great extensions to the amazing game that is OoT. Hey-hey-hey. I said I would give it a try Besides, it's not like I'm comparing it to FF7. At least OOT has reasons to be great, according to people. I would actually believe so. The game would not be overrated if nearly everyone agrees that Ocarina of Time is one of the best video games ever made. You have to consider that this comes from a hefty number of gamers that have their own ideas of what and what not constitutes a great game. When a mass consensus agree how great a game is, and more than a decade after its existence still deem it so, it proves not to be overrated but rather a classic. I think IGN said it best when they said that in E3, Nintendo had the best presentation because they reminded gamers why they started gaming. Titles such as Zelda, Metroid, Kirby, Donkey Kong and Kid Icarus made hardcore gamers out of people and if it weren't for those games, the video game industry wouldn't have flourished as much as they do today. or will he ? That actually depends. If he maintains that "overrated" mindset throughout the game, he might not just enjoy it and focus too much on trying to find the game's flaws. But it can also work the opposite way that the game would continuously amaze. The trick is to be open to the possibility that the game isn't as overrated as how he thinks.

Well I wouldn't deem it the best after playing it, but I will probably enjoy it overall.

Yeah, with OOT I could see why people think it's the greatest game ever (even I think it's ONE of the best) whereas with FF7, it was fun and all, but I've personally played better RPGs (coughcoughFF3/ChronoCross/StarOcean2/TalesofSymphoniacoughcough). yeah, I guess I'm not one of the people who think OOT or SMB are the best games ever .

I can't think of a best game. Not that EVERY game has its flaws. In terms of opinions, I may be in the mood for a different game one day and another game another day. Besides, FF7 can't compare. Here are the differences between OOT and FF7: OOT: -Acclaimed robust story-line -Acclaimed innovative gameplay -Acclaimed replay-value and experience FF7: -Acclaimed "hawt characturs" -Acclaimed "Cloud is badass!" -Acclaimed "Sephiroth is soooo hawt!" Difference: OOT seems to be constructed rather nicely unlike FF7, where all I hear from fans is how "hot" or "badass" the two characters in that godforsaken game are. At LEAST OOT-fans praise OOT for all that I listed.
