I think its about time we hosted a pokemon tournament don't you all think?

ok so its up to you all to decide the rules for this tourney. We don't have to worry about being at equal levels because we can always set it up so our pokes are level 100 or 50 in online battles.

First of all, do you want it to be SINGLE OR DOUBLE BATTLE? 
Personally i prefer double battles because it has more strategy and it gives the weaker pokes a chance to fight back.


Should it be best of 3? or just 1 battle to decide the victor?
Best of 3 would be more fun, although it may take a while, what do you think?


We could also include some special rules like how many legendaries we can use and things like that. This way nobody can surprise you with 6 Ho-ohs or Lugias

So should it be on next Tuesday or Wednesday? and for that matter what time will most of you be available?

Please tell me if anyone is interested in this and share your thoughts about the rules

Soul silver and Heart gold can play with Diamond and pearl so it doesn't matter which of the 4 you have.

I'll say just one double battle, no retreating, and up to 1 legendary per team. Feel free to add to or argue with this.

I like Ryans idea. Im not big on legendaries, but 1(if you reeeally need it ) would be fine

I don't know much about comp. pokemon but I know these are a few rules:


Banned:

Any pokemon who's number is above 492 or doesn't have a number (So in other words, Arceus or any hacked guys)
Most legendaries
Rotom and Tyranitar
No Arceus plates
No using of the move judgement (In this case, only Smeargle since Arcues is banned)
Items/Berries only obtainable in events


Allowed:

Phione
All normal pokemon
Shinies and event pokemon that are different color than normal
The 3 groups of each seires (Moltres, Zapdos, Articuno, Regice, Regirock, Registeel, Azelf, ect.)
All items that aren't Arceus plates
Items/Berries only obtainable in every game without an event

Good rules for the tourny to follow, some can be changed to fit what we want

Below there are the most used rules used here in the forum.


When you just say Standard rules, you're immediately agreeing with them when opening a thread.
Sleep Clause
You can't use sleep inducing moves in opponent's Pokémon when there's another Pokémon in his/her team asleep. Yawn can't be used to PseudoHaze (make opponent switch) when there's another Pokémon asleep caused by you. When the asleep Pokémon awakes or faints, you're free to make another Pokémon of his/her team asleep. Sleeping being caused by Effect Spore or Rest are disconsidered from Sleep Clause.
Species Clause
You can't use two of the same Pokémon in a team.
Evasion Clause
You can't use moves that increases your evasion. Avoid the use of Acupressure, it has 1/7 chance to double your evasion.
OHKO Clause
You are strictly prohibited of using OHKO moves. They are Guillotine, Horn Drill, Fissure and Sheer Cold.
No Hacks
Don't need to explain, you are prohibited to use any illegally obtained Pokémon. Hacking parents to breed is also unaccepted, but people can't control this just looking at the stats. Hacking Pokémon with "legit stats" is also not allowed.
No Ubers
Uber Pokémon are overpowered Pokémon. Since these are "Standard Rules" you have to use the "Standard Pokémon".

These are all the items that relies on luck to activate. These items are:
Brightpowder, Focus Band, King's Rock, Lax Incense, Quick Claw, Razor Fang, Razor Claw, Scope Lens, Lansat Berry, Stick and Lucky Punch. Note: Scope Lens, Razor Claw and Stick are hax items, but they are the only ones allowed in competitive play, as they just increase the odds of something that can already happen.


No Disconnecting
You can't turn off your DS or move away from signal range to end a battle. People can have weak routers so don't always fight with the people if he/she disconnected. Not exactly a rule, but an ethic sense.

Seriously though, hax items? who the hell came up with that idea? (obviously someone who lost because of those items...)


Anyway moving on, so far we have: On Tuesday, 1 match,  Double Battle, only 1 legendary allowed if you want to use one but no Arceus.

is there anybody who wants to change the rules or add something to them? or are these ok?

I don't know much about comp. pokemon but I know these are a few rules:


Banned:
Rotom and Tyranitar
No Arceus plates

I don't get why Rotom is banned, I mean, in one of his forms maybe, but he's a mediocre pokemon!
and with Tyranitar, he's considered an uber, right?
No Arceus plates?  Those are just regular plates that power up moves, and if Arceus is banned, and Judgement us too, why would it matter?

Gosh, I can't do these things ever (because of my wi-fi that only works for Wii and Computer (too high security for DS or something like that)), but these Tourney rules are stupid, I mean, I can understand not allowing Arceus and the use of Judgement through Smeargle, but seriously, no legends?
The people who make the "Tourney" rules, are just wimps who don't like losing, so they only allow the weaker legends and the "regular" pokemon that aren't considered Uber (mostly the pokemon that are near the legendaries in the pokedex list, like Dragonite! )  I mean, you should be allowed to use any non-hacked team you want, except with Arceus, I'm with them on Arceus

I mean, I'm not saying I wouldn't whine if they put me up against a lvl 100 Lugia or Mewtwo or whatever, I just think Tourney rules suck! that is all!

My friends and I always battle this way cause if retreating is fair game then we constantly get into never ending swap cycles to get the typwe advantage and the battle doesn't end.

Yeah no retreating is better.

If yes, then no, we shouldnt ban that. A major part of comp pokemon is predicting your opponents next move and switching out to something that can handle the move easier.

I like the set of rules Sarah just posted. But I have an adjustment to them.

First 2 battles are single battle, then if its tied, the 3rd battle will be double battle.
1 legendary per team, no arceus
Any items, moves or berries
No hax
