"Oh... Did I win? It seems like Peach will likely be saying this even more this time around, because overall peach got several buffs. Peach is one of the characters that actually felt similar to her Melee counterpart becaues of her floating mechanics. Her double jump was DRASTICALLY reduced in height, but otherwise her movement is mostly the same. Peach is overall faster in Brawl while still maintaining most of her priority and most of her KO potential. Peach seems to have everything going for her, but her recovery may become far more easily punished this time around. Anyways, let's get down to business.

Peach is overall much faster than she is in Melee. Her moves come out faster, she runs faster, and she still has float canceling so eliminating lag after airials feels very famiilar here. Peach is one of the few characters that feels a lot like their Melee counterpart. Most of the competitive players adapted to Peach much more quickly than they adapted to any other character. Peach's tilts all combo better than they did in Melee, they all setup nicely for an airial at the lower percents and they all activate faster than their Melee counterparts as well. Her forward tilt isn't nearly as laggy in this game, and it comes out a little bit quicker. The down tilt seems mostly the same. Her up tilt is faster, has better comboability, and less lag after it. Peach's dash attack has changed in this game. Rather than being a wall of priority that can combo fast fallers this move is now a combo move on pretty much everyone. The move hits two times now, the first hit pushes them into the second hit, which sets them up for an easy combo. Peach's grab game seems to be just as dangerous in Brawl as well. Her down throw is one of the best comboing throws in Brawl, and her forward throw was the only throw that we saw killing. The knockback of her forward throw isn't necessarily increased, but it seems like the DI on throws isn't nearly as effective, but perhaps we just weren't DIing it correctly.

Peach's Specials were never really anything to be amazed by. Her turnips were always one of the best things about her though. She still pulls them just as fast in this game, and can still pull out beam swords, bob-ombs, Mr. Saturn, and the death turnip. Turnips are easier to catch in this game (along with all items) and can be caught during airials, so that could lead to some pretty cool potential Peach combos or sheild pressuring tactics. Toad was only useful in certain cases in Melee, and it seems to be mostly unchanged in this game. Her side b in this game seems to be improved a lot. It's now a legitimate kill move, it starts up much faster and hits a lot harder, it also has drastically reduced lag at the end of the move. Instead of a standard explosion like in the last game it now has the animation of what I can best describe as a "heart" explosion. A lot of hearts and "pink" explode out of the point of impact when this move lands now. Peach's up b is more or less the same move in this game, but with Brawl's new physics it seems like it will be much easier to punish. Peach's up b falls down MUCH slower in this game, she can stay up for a long, long time, but the problem is the fast fall. When you fast fall in Melee with peach out of her umbrella you would fall pretty quickly back to the ground, it's great for tricking people into missing an edgeguard. Well in Brawl when you fast fall you fall just slightly faster than Melee's normal umbrella fall. It's still very slow and it looks like it would be easily punished.

Peach's smash attacks recieved a few nerfs, but overall are still very good. I'll start with the obvious big change. Peach's down smash has been fixed. Well, I suppose the right word is nerfed, but you know what I mean. Peach's down smash does significantly less damage overall, it still does a lot of damage if everything hits, but this isn't a 50+% combo in one move anymore. The move does roughly 30% if every hit lands, and has much lower knockback. This move doesn't even kill in sudden death. It still is a pretty solid move because of the low startup time and the fact that it can still eat away at sheilds. Her up smash seems to be mostly the same, but possibly has more range this time around. We are unsure if the move still has invincibility frames, but it has a lot of priority at very least. Peach's forward smash is a GREAT killing move in this game. It still varies between the frying pan, golf club, and tennis racket. The move comes out a little bit faster than it did in Melee and seems to have great killing potential regardless of which variation you get. This move is very strong and seems like it is hard to punish.

Peach's air game remained mostly the same. Still a lot of high priority moves, some with good combo ability, and some with good killing power. Her up air still does mostly the same thing, good for some comboing at lower percents, and can kill off the top at some of the higher percents too. Her down air is pretty much the same as well. Peach's neutral may have slightly less priority, but it's still great and does a lot of damage. Her forward air is noticably faster and still has good killing power. Peach's air game is really solid in Brawl, just like in Melee.

Overall Peach has got it all. She's pretty fast on the ground, she has a lot of killing potential, she has a great projectile, and she's got great combos. She seems like she will die at more or less the same percents in this game, she is still light in this game, but everyone lives to higher percents now. Peach was one of the best characters from the competitive point of view."

This gives me more reason to say...it doesn't matter which one you choose to save in SE. If you want Zelda early on and Peach to face the bigger baddies, go ahead. If you want a powerhouse early on and Zelda with most likely Sheik later on then great too. Depends on your favorites now I guess.

Great read, makes me happy to see my main character remains tough in Brawl.
"Her double jump was DRASTICALLY reduced in height..."
Fair enough.  Horizontal distance, plus ability to reverse direction, is sufficient.  Although I fear I shall no longer be able to float above Giga Bowser's head...
"Peach is overall much faster than she is in Melee. "
An improvement.  People often assumed Peach was a speed character (as most females are in fighting games), so they're doubtless catering to this stereotype.  But I'm not one to refuse an improvement to my favorite character...
"Peach is one of the few characters that feels a lot like their Melee counterpart."
Good to hear.
"Peach's tilts all... setup nicely for an airial at the lower percents..."
Ah, yes!  Her dreaded ariel attacks!  Get 'em in the sky and send 'em to hell!  Ooh-rah!
"Rather than being a wall of priority that can combo fast fallers this move is now a combo move on pretty much everyone. The move hits two times now, the first hit pushes them into the second hit, which sets them up for an easy combo."
I kinda liked the wall of priority, myself.  But there appears to be a new combo emphasis for Peach.  I approve.
"A lot of hearts and "pink" explode out of the point of impact when this move lands now."
Roll Eyes  They had to add pink hearts.  *Sigh.*

*Clang!*  Ha ha ha.  Finally, her foward smash will hurt like it sounds like it should.
