I dont know if theres another forum for this already, but it wasn't popular, and so im going to start this anyways...

Quite a few rumors have recently given the idea that Lucario will be replacing Mewtwo as a playable character. When I heard this, I was like "what? but Mewtwo is actually a good character?!", but then I thought, "hey, I guess Lucario could have a better moveset, represent the latest generation of pokemon, and kick alot of ass".

What do ya'll think?

PS Although there still rumors, there some of the more reliable ones, so don't even throw out the old "this is a lie, its not happening" line, lets have some deep conversation about it Smiley

Even though Lucario has been featured in a standalone movie, is a furry - I mean - fan favorite, and is an actual Fighting type pokemon, Mewtwo deserves the second chance.

In my opinion, the biggest reasons for his comeback are:

1. Another villainous character - he's brooding and has a superiority complex.
2. The possibility of a Pokemon Trainer / Mewtwo fateful encounter.
3. Having Psychic as a Final Smash would add diversity.
4. I want to see Mewtwo Kirby again.  Smiley

Other than that, I can't come up with anything else at the moment.
Hopefully, he'll possess more long-range attacks as well.

I really don't see a reason for them to scrap existing characters (clones not counting).

Furthermore I don't see why Lucario would need to replace MewTwo.  Even if we put both of them in, we'd have 4 pokemon again, same number as last time.  Given that the roster has increased, that means we have a lower pokemon density issue.  So I say we can have both of them and maybe one or two more

Why have him replace Mewtwo, when you could have both?

Having both would be fine and all but if it came down to it i'd vote for Mewtwo over this Lucario fella. First off i'm not too familiar with the other 400 pokemon that came after the original 151 (i include Mew) but all i know is Mewtwo is supposed to be the badass of all the pokemon. In a way he's almost a god, i'll admit i saw the movie when it first came out and he was stopping entire stampedes of pokemon in thier steps, reflecting hyper beams with one hand, and creating a storm meant to wipe the world clean. All i'm saying is that Mewtwo still deserves his spot on the roster especially if the roster is going to be hurting for some villians. They just need to adjust and modify some of his moveset to make him a more competitive fighter and i'll be happy. If there is still room then bring on Lucario if they really want him.

Admittedly, when I first heard Lucario as a character idea (a long time ago), I was super skeptic, and I didn't want this at all. I'm a pokemon purist for the first gen, because we can all agree it went down hill from there. I love Mewtwo, but I hate him in Brawl. He's such a weird character, because he doesn't stand out, and it seems like I'd almost would've wished to have someone else in Melee, and to have Mewtwo saved for Brawl, because he looked so awkward in Melee.

As for Lucario, I've got to admit, he's got tons of potential. First of all he's a fighter pokemon, who also uses steel and psychic powers(the connection to Mewtwo). Especially in the latest game, he has tons of rare, incredibly powerful moves, and he could really fit in well with Brawl.

That being said, I don't want to cut Mewtwo, I'm just relaying information. I wish I could tell you I've got all my sources and such, but I don't. I was listening to the "Show Me Your News" podcast to waste time when they talked about this being one of the leading rumors, which was coming from multiple places. We won't really know until we get some sort of surefire leak, or when we have the game in our hands (or at least, Japanese gamers will have the game in their hands lol).

We do have to look to the current generation of things though. This is why, although characters like Crystal and Lucario are being overlooked, they are likely characters because Smash is trying to build up new franchises and ideas, rather than just the old ones. I don't want Mewtwo cut, but unless they make him a hell of a more balanced character than in Melee, I would way rather have Lucario, a character worthy of new ideas.

PS (because I just cant shut up) Through some Japanese translations, its been confirmed that not all characters from Melee are coming back. To me, this means namely Pichu and *tear* Ness. I will start another forum for this topic, dont post stuff about that here.

hey your right about Mewtwo. I saw the movie in theathers when it came out and Mewtwo was badass. They should make him alot stronger or change his style of fighting. So it would be awsome to have them both in Cheesy

I wouldn't count too many of them out of it yet. True there will most likley be some big cuts and some not so big cuts. I think a lot of people agreed that fighters like Pichu, Roy, Young Link, and Falco have some of the biggest chances of being kicked. Others say that Lucas is the killing stroke for Ness and Marth may get cut because of a feeling of similarity to Ike. We can safetly assume Ganondorf will be back but with a revamped moveset. Hopefully the cuts don't extend to Mewtwo as well though.

In all honesty, why would you cut an original character out of the game. Dr. Mario, Pichu, Roy and Young Link seem like valid cuts but having Mewtwo cut is a bit of overkill. Besides, Mewtwo brings that magical psychic mechanic that still boggles me. It's like, WTF, why can't I snatch the floating beam sword!

Simply put, I don't see a reason to take out characters at this point.  Half the work in Mewtwo is already done, all he needs are some tweaks, maybe a balance issue or two, some graphic updates and an FS.  Seems like throwing away a lot of work for no reason.
