I'm optimistic about this. I'll have to see the forthcoming details first before I let myself become very excited.
The gaming companies are really going retro lately. In addition to being 2D, I wonder if this game is returning its original 16-bit rendition.

I dunno, I think it'll still suck. I'm not generally enough of a 2D Sonic fan to be honest. But we don't have enough information to really decide anything yet. Not getting my hopes up.
