You know what would be cool though...if there was a Mii Brawl. As in it's a special minigame where you could upload your Miis and just fight with what miis have. That would be real fun!

lol...

Onto the conversation. This is a developer wii, and so the reason theres nothing else other than the mii channel, is because it doesn't access anything else. It is proof that miis are in Brawl, but not necessarly playable characters (although that would be cool). We already know that miis are used to organize files and your different control schemes.

Also (just some random mii ideas), what if they we're an assist trophy, and they popped up (all miis from your channel, that you recognize), and then did a mii parade, and ran aroand and marched aroand attacking people in the process. That could also be an idea for a final smash if the mii was a character" Mii Parade!!!

As much as it pains me to say it, that's no proof of Miis in Brawl.

Putting the Mii in would be an insane idea. Think about it, they could have different attacks based on Wii Sports and Wii Play...and the Final Smash would be Mii Parade! Trampling by Miis! Amazing!

Well, we have a pretty rock solid confirmation that there are no Miis in Brawl as playable characters:

Of course, I think there was a possibility of taking Smash Bros. in a more casual-gaming direction. For example, we could make the art style simpler or make it possible to use Miis. However, with the various titles that the Wii was to offer, I felt that people were looking for something different. That’s the reason I decided in very early stages of development that the Wii pointer and motion movements would not be a primary feature of the game.

Yes, this does make the grounds for the Miis shaky.

Yeah... that's pretty much the funeral march for the Miis, I'm afraid.  Had this interview been an old one, I'd have said "he might have changed his mind."  But, nope.  They dead.
EDIT:
Miis - Never Made It To Brawl
We'll never be able to eat Jesus with Yoshi now...
We'll never be able to enjoy low-brow political satire now...
We'll never be able to enter the brawl in cartoon form now...
