Back in the day I thought it was important to learn to draw characters like those in western comics or the Street Fighter games, but later - as DJ has stated - I came to realise that real people don't look like that, so I saw drawing heavily defined muscular anatomy as less important.

But if that's the way you want to draw then that's okay too, Bobby.

Yeah, all the artists I knew believed the first way you did, so there's long been a push to develop your skills in that area. If nothing else, it certainly helps to understand the foundational elements of the human body.

From an early age, I grew up under the artistic giants of the Greek, Roman, and Renaissance eras. They set the bar on "fine art," and it has long been my goal to rival their mastery of the human form and unmistakable sense of life. As such, over on dA you'll see that I've labeled myself an "anatomist-in-training."

Nonetheless, or rather, in the same vein, I also aim to create a diverse portfolio that expresses the magic and beauty of human life in different ways. Hence the natural poses and romantic pieces, among others, and the diverse assortment of artistic styles implemented. None-athletic works are of course done and in-the-works, but ultimately I find a greater concentration of beauty in health, so I doubt we'll ever see guys with "beer bellies" as DJ inquired about. I'm very health-minded, so my art will often reflect that to a large degree.

One thing though, you always draw ripped guys. Any chance you'll start with just normal simpletons who don't have lean bodies and a beer belly?

You know, come to think of it, I don't see you very bothered about me drawing all the lean and fit women I've done. Tongue

I'm bothered now. :-P Although I'm also about health too, I just realized that much of the population isn't that lean...in fact they're a minority. Even athletes aren't normally that lean.

Our society is in such a decline when it comes to health, particularly here in the USA. The obesity epidemic is startling. I place much of the blame on technology (ease of life), the vastness of processed foods, and our fast-paced, sedentary lifestyle.
...Which makes me chuckle, because I'm sitting at a computer to type this and I'm eating a sugar cookie. xD Oh well, at least I'm careful to get plenty of exercise throughout the week, haha.

As right as you are, that wasn't my point. My point is, not everyone has that perfect body. Most people don't have sculpted abs, cuts in their arms, big pecs. It's usually a combo of good muscles and fat. People don't have the same body type. It's something that you should try when drawing. It'll give you growth as a sketch artist.

And on that we agree.

I'm incapable of drawing things I don't "click" with, and when I do click with something, I can't help but draw it.

If some image--real or imaginary--involving more "normal" physiques enters my wellspring of inspiration, rest assured I won't keep from drawing it.

8 months since an update? Really? Considering the lack of posts overall, I figured it'd be a decent time to pop up again. But due to how many sketches and whatnot I've produced, I'll just show some of my faves. Simply click to enlarge, and adjust sizes as needed using "Ctrl +" or "Ctrl -".
