Could this mean that that you would have to unlock all of the 3rd party characters? because that would suck. I'm very glad that Kirby has improved from what he was in melee. He was way to weak in my opinion, but it was still fun to play as him.

Um could what mean we need to unlock all of the 3rd party characters.

Honestly, I think all 3rd Party characters are going to be front and center as they're probably being used as advertising.

Yeah, they'd most likely be starters to:

1. Promote the character
2. Give great fun to the players.

It's more than just promoting the character.  It's two sided advertising.  You'll increase your fanbase because people who aren't that keen on Nintendo may buy it just to play as Snake or Sonic.  And anybody playing it is more likely to buy a Snake or Sonic game that comes out as it's on their brain.

Meanwhile you take the opposite.  If nobody knows that Megaman (hypothetically) is in the game until he's unlocked, than Megafans might pass over the game entirely (in fact, some people who would've bought the game might decidedly not buy it in protest to their favorite character being overlooked) and the advertising for a new megaman game would not be seen by casual gamers, or people who haven't figured out how to unlock him yet.
