Okay, lately we've been getting annoying, unwanted ads from spam bots and possibly: trolls.  We have to put this to an end, but before this idea can be placed into action, we must first place a vote.

The idea here is to create a system that will require a new member to enter a specified code, like most sites.  The codes are designed to confuse spambots and they will not be able to read them.  If you are familiar with this type of method to decrease spam activity, then you will know what I'm taking about.  I'm really just tossing something quick, or this site will become a reject for it's unnecessary content.

All those in favor for the new Registry Code, raise your hand:

Aye!

I will provide a picture of one if needed

Then how the heck are they reading it?

And btw, yes, that's what I meant.  It is, however, kinda easy to read, even for a spambot.

You can say that as well.  Seems logical enough.

I'm very surprised this "spambot" is able to read the Registry Codes. Not being thoroughly versed in the nature and instruments of dark internet activity such as this, I'm not sure what to think. Is this some advanced spambot, or some person in desperate need of a life?
Either way, I think this has gone on long enough for us all to appreciate some added hindrances to the devious membership activity.

Before SP was hit with this spambot wave, the highest number of accounts made totaled a good 88 accounts. That was for November of 2007, the month Smash Power was created.
Now, THIS November has the most accounts on record, having an absurd 449 accounts as of this hour - and the big thing, only a handful of those accounts have been used by actual, good-intending members.

Added to that, and taking predominance in my mind, these "members" randomly but predictably advertise X-rated and obscene material both in their profiles and in their threads.
Lightly put, this is very bothersome to me, and unfair and unkind to our guests and members.

With that said, this is entirely in Rocky's hands, so I'm not going to make myself a pest. But if my word does matter at all, I do vote for some protective procedures to be set in place.

it's a very advanced spam bot . it has hit all message boards on the net based on the infrastructure we use . i don't know what else i can do about the problem . a very small number of members get far enough to create threads .

A lot of sites now use easy questions instead of those security codes, which can become difficult to read.

So for example: Who is the hero of the Legend of Zelda games?

Or: What is the name of Nintendo's newest console?

Maybe a capuche disguised as a simple math problem? That would require more work at least to solve.

There was a really bad one over the weekend.

And a poorly spelled username advertising a well-known 'Pfizer' product.

I'm not convinced they are dead yet.
