the majority of the game wasnt inspired from greek mythology?.. is that why the 3 realms coexist, with no mention of afterlife and are reffered to as the underworld, overworld and sky world as opposed to heaven earth and hell? the main antagonist is medusa, pit is helped by zeus, each contains a labrynth like the myth, when he is given wings, at the end of the sequel he gets too close to the sun and loses his wings... hmm. nah coincedence eh?
much of it is based on greek mythology . however , much is not . to begin with , the title screen of the game is subtitles with "angel land story" . angels are not of greek origin but of biblical / judeo christian origin . it's true that the overworld and underworld are not referred to as heaven and hell , but neither are they refered to as as olympus and hades . i won't go into discussion of any game sequels , because i have only played the original game , but based only on the original , i can tell you the following :
these components of the game have no roots in greek mythology : palutena , the 3 sacred treasures , credit card , angels feathers , pencil , about 40 / 50 enemies , tombstones bear the christian cross , which is obviously not an element of greek mythology . the storyline also is not coherent with greek myth . icarus had nothing to do with medusa , who was killed by perseus . i'm running out of examples . i haven't played the game in a while .
im no expert but the influences are pretty blatant.. i dont kno abt the judeo christian part of it so ill il let you call it a mix at best.
yes , of course it was a mix or i would have said "no part of the game was based on greek myth" . i'm not going to split hairs and fight over whether or not "most" of the game was . there's no absolute way to count points anyway (though , i think a quick read through the
manual points favorably towards my side)
..this wasnt even about pits influences to begin with, just saying he was originally a game character. and what do you mean the name kid icarus was taken? from what movie?
movie ? what are you talking about ? of course pit was originally a game character . i was only pointing out that the cartoon character "icarus" differs from the game character "pit" in name as well as many other characteristics . thus , pit and icarus (cartoon character) are just as distinctly independant characters as donkey kong and king kong are . am i making any sense yet ?
