(are we talking about the flood in Wind Waker?) * 0² disagrees with all of you Link can not be replaced by a boy with black hair. It breaks all tradition. I agree with Heebank when I say that I'm not good with Link being removed from a Legend of Zelda game. I mean, it's like having Super Mario Galaxy but not being able to play as Mario. Or Pikmin with out Olimar. Or Donkey Kong without DK or Pokemon without Pikachu. Characters make games what they are, and without the characters, games aren't the same kind of games. If they want a new Main character for The Legend of Zelda, make a diffrent version of Link like they did with the Wind Waker. Or don't call it the Legend of Zelda. Call it the Legend. * 0² will call this rip-off game the Legend * 0² remembers I Am Legend * 0² thought it was sad when Will Smith had to kill his dog * 0² also got scared when she first saw the zombies * 0² thought that was a good movie * 0² has gone off-topic and will close this post by saying Link can't be replaced by a boy with a black and/or weird hair * 0² is starting to lose alot of respect for Nintendo I agree with you about there being a Mario game without Mario that would just be rediculous. But the game isn't called the Legend of Link it's called the Legend of ZELDA and even so they made Majora's mask with nothing but a reference to her and surely there would be a reference to Link and Zelda in the upcoming game. The black haired boy is propably searching for the hero of time and if that's true and he does end up finding him(propably too late) it would be really cool to see a cel-shaded adult/old link. And what if the black haired kid is like link's son or something(definitely a long shot but you never know) and he was an orphan or something so that he wouldn't be killed. That would be pretty cool and then it's like he's searching for the hero of time who ends up being his father. I wish I knew someone on the Zelda Wii team...

Drew, you made the finest point around. It's the Legend of Zelda...not Adventure of Link... Therefore, having a new protagonist for the series like having other antagonists like Vaati wouldn't hurt. And in the legend in the prologue of windwaker, they prayed hard for a hero garbed in green but no one came. Now obviously, there isn't a "Link" and that we'd find out what happened leading to the events of WW...

its not that link is being replaced, he simply wasnt there when the flood happened (apparently), and in order to find out what happened during that time, another person has got to be the hero this time around. and a tragic hero would be a nice change of pace for one game.
said that.

there has to be link. if there isnt link, the whole game would suck. it would be like, "Samus is on vacattion, so you get to play as this rookybounty hunter to kill all the metroids. oh yeah. you have no suit, and you have no special abilities. have fun" Also. if there isnt a link, then there wouldnt be a holder of the triforce of courage.

If this were really the prequel to WW and the sequel to OoT adult timeline, then the triforce of courage would have been scattered around the land in 8 pieces. So exactly, there wouldn't be a Link as Link is the official holder of the ToC. This hero would have to do without it. Also, since Link of WW had to find the 8 pieces, it is safe to assume that no one else got hold of the ToC from the time Adult Link cut the Triforce in 8 until when Toon Link re-formed it and that it stayed safe scattered throughout the land.

Yup... For every Zelda game we tell a new story, but we actually have an enormous document that explains how the game relates to the others, and bind them together. But to be honest, they are not that important to us. We care more about developing the game system... give the player new challenges for every chapter that is born. Taken from: http://www.miyamotoshrine.com/theman/interviews/230403.shtmlSo yes, they do have both plot and canon. Even the timelines have a big document about it to stay in canon. It's actually why I love LoZ so much.

I think it would be wierd to have 3 Links in the same storyline...I guess it would be a common name because people like naming their kids after good people but I still think it would be wierd. I wouldn't mind though. If they do a sequel to OoT/prequel WW then it wouldn't exactly mak sense to have a Link. But whatever. I just really hope that sometime in the near future a new Zelda game is announced and more then all I hope it is cel-shaded or that they incorperate some new idea or technique rather then having the regular old(kinda getting old too) sword, bow, hookshot, bombs, iron boots... Here's the closing comments from IGN UK's TP review: "Rumblings from Nintendo suggest that this will be the last Zelda game in its current form. As Nintendo moves into uncharted territory with new interfaces and the massive success of its touch generations titles, we look forward to them moving past the creative adolescence inherent in designing for a radical new controller, and towards the true next-generation Zelda that the Wii deserves. But in the meantime, lovingly embrace the nostalgia trip and enjoy what Twilight Princess is; a journey through the great Zelda games that we grew up playing, and likely the last of its kind."-Justin Keeling IGN UK EDIT: Here's a supposed interview. I doubt it's true(beings that E3 is over and all... but you never know). It could be a very well written fan fic. but regardless it's interesting http://www.zentendo.com/forums/index.php?topic=13375.0

That would actually be a great option for those who have it but for those who don't, there should always be an alternative.
