Can anyone tell me the point of Side Stepping? I try to use it a lot in Brawl. But it never seems to do anything for me at all.

When an opponent uses an attack with a lot of ending lag, doing this can leave them totally useless. It depends which move you use it against.

Side Stepping is one of my favorite techniques. While regular rolling is effective for many scenarios, Side Stepping is great for when you're up against fast characters, avoiding projectiles, and when you are able to anticipate short ranged attack. When it comes to fast characters, regular rolling can easily prove dangerous as it leaves you vulnerable to a dash attack once you stand back up. So, for these scenarios, it works well to side step. It will save you a lot of percentage - and provide an opening for you to attack. With regards to short rang attacks, if someone does a forward thrust in your direction, you can sidestep it and attack them before they get a chance to move. It works great.
There are more uses, but these are the main ones I've come to implement on a regular basis.

Side stepping is also a perfect alternative to perfect shielding especially when the attack can pierce your shield open... Now if you don't know what Perfect Shielding is for, fight Illz. He usually perfect shields and sidesteps opponent's moves. hold block and tap left or right .
That's roll dodging. Sidestep dodging is tap block and down.

That's roll dodging. Sidestep dodging is tap block and down. oh yeah ? then why is it called sidestepping if you step downward , and why is it called "rolling dodge" if you move to the side ? and why does everyone do "rolling doge" on the warioware level when it says "sidestep" ?

Actually for once Dj is right. In the Warioware level, all you need to do is make sure the arrows and touch you. It's called a rolling dodge becuase, well, you roll. It's called a sidestep becuase you step to the side and back.

Rocky should stop picking fights and start reading the instruction manual. Page 11 of the manual shows shielding and grabbing. Under shielding, you have the 3 evasive techniques. Now as for the Warioware game, it's probably called that because it suggests you to sidestep the arrows. However, you can perfect shield, roll dodge, or simply head to the space where no arrows will fall.

First off, I would like to thank Rocky for re-opening this thread.
Secondly, thank you everyone for the input you have given me on side stepping. It will come into good use. I see myself doing it more and slowly mastering it. If anyone else had any input as to how side stepping helps them, it would be greatly appreciated.
And finally third. If anyone does have an input, please be respectful. I'm tired of this nonsense fighting going on.
