You may notice that your profile now has a field to enter your zip code .

By entering your zip code , you will be able to see the approximate distance between you and any other member that has entered a zip code . These calculations are performed using data collected from the 2000 census . You can see this distances displayed on a user's posts or on their profile .

If you enter a zip code and distances are not being calculated properly , it probably means that there is no data for your zip code . in this case , you should try another zip code that is near you . zip codes are based on post office zoning and not geographical region , so it is impossible to keep this data complete and up to date .

also , the zip codes are US zip codes only . i don't have a strong enough understanding to implement international postage codes . even if i did , i don't have any coordinte data available to use for those .

I really like that the miles show up under the profile, but I think it'd be better if the actual zip was hidden... i don't know how possible that is Smiley

I really, really like this feature though

Such a pleasant reminder that the Midwest is a big, gaping hole.   Tongue

I'm stuck in Texas, equally far away from everybody.  Even other Texans.
