a comprmise would be possible , but the terms of a compromise would have to include the following :
a) a lesser penalty for occaisional no-shows .
b) a greater penalty for habitual no-shows .
the first one is for people who are not happy with the current system . the second one is for me , and a safeguard to ensure that the change results in less no-shows , and not more .
i consider 2 no-shows per month to be too many . so we could excuse a single no-show per month so long as we consider the second one to be habitual . according to the terms of the compromise , the penalty for 2 no-shows would have to be greater than the current penalty . i guess 2 loss points plus a 1 month tournament suspension would be ok .
like i said before , it's really a matter of numbers . suspending people from participating will only further lower participation as a whole on this website , which is the opposite of what i'm trying to accomplish . if this new system were to be put in place , it would have to prove it's effectiveness in improving tournament participation before i would commit the time to program it permanently .
to be honest , i really don't see anything wrong with the way things are now . the entire system operates on the honor system . that says
a) i will not lie about what matches i won or lost
b) i will not intentionally disconnect my machine when i think i'm going to lose
c) i will show up to the matches that i have agreed to show up to
aside from being about a week behind current stats , the leaderboard is an accurate representation of how well people are performing .
in the words of crusty the clown ,"95 percent of being successfull is showing up to work on time (sorry i'm 4 hours late)" . when you see that someone has a low rank , you will know that they are either piss poor at brawling , or piss poor at followng through with their commitments - both of which i believe should be viewed in the same light .
it doesn't matter how strong you are if you're too lazy to do any work . it doesn't matter how smart you are in the inside if you can't dress yourself and you have feces stains on your face , and it doesn't matter how good you are at smash bros in your spare time , when you can't even be bothered to show up for the fights that count toward your record .
lol, i agree that the honor system is fine, though id also be willing to try that compromise, if other people think it would help tournament participation. my belief is that, if a suspension system is applied, we'd lose the people who were already going to not show up, so i think it would help tourney organization. but i could be wrong about that, so whatever everyone else thinks about it is fine with me.
