OK I just recently started downloading VC games and I made the mistake of downloading "Kirby and the Crystal Shards" because I wanted to play a Kirby game (I've never owned a Kirby game).

I regret wasting 1000 VC "points" on this piece of crap - I dunno if the target market is 5-year olds or something but it's waaaay to easy and "kiddy" for me - Needless to say I WON'T be buying a Kirby game ever again.

I want this thread to be used for people to share their opinions of any VC games they've downloaded and warn people of any really crappy games that they should avoid at all costs.

DND's VC games:

Alien Soldier (Megadrive/Genesis)
General Description: Side-scrolling shoot-em-up
Graphics: Good for pixel art, beautiful backgrounds, the bosses are HUGE and well-animated
Gameplay: The game is tough - but with practice you can beat a boss without taking any damage. HUGE replay value.
Sound: Nice explosion and blast noises, some voice samples.
Music: Varied music styles - all good quality 16-bit music.
Controls: Easy to get used to. Works best with the Wii Remote (held sideways)
Score: 8/10
__________

Streets of Rage 3 (Megadrive/Genesis)
General Description: Side-scrolling beat-em-up
Graphics: Pixelated sprites - not bad for 16-bit, backgrounds can be dull/limited.
Gameplay: Using the limited attacks can get a bit dull, I find "Streets of Rage" games are more fun with two players.
Sound: Limited sound FX - suitable for the game though.
Music: Not bad, but you probably won't be humming them when you're not playing the game.
Controls: Easy to get used to. Works best with the Wii Remote (held sideways)
Score: 6.5/10
__________

Lylat Wars/Starfox 64 (N64)
General Description: Semi-linear 3D shoot-em-up
Graphics: Blocky 3D polygons - really good for the N64 era though.
Gameplay: You have to play through a set number of stages based on performance (number of enemies shot down/mission objective). Excellent replay value though.
Sound: Nice explosion/laser FX, good voice samples.
Music: Good quality music.
Controls: Easy to get used to - I use the GC controller.
Score: 9/10
__________

Sin and Punishment (N64)
General Description: Semi-linear 3D shoot-em-up
Graphics: Blocky 3D polygons - but pushes the N64 to its absolute limit (probably best N64 graphics)
Gameplay: Much like "Alien Soldier" - can be really tough - you need to figure out how to beat the bosses. HUGE replay value.
Sound: Good explosions and stuff - the noise Saki makes when he jumps can get annoying.
Music: Not bad
Controls: Difficult - I use "Control Type 3" with the GC controller - still takes some getting used to.
Score: 8/10
__________

Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles (NES)
General Description: Side-scrolling beat-em-up
Graphics: Not so good pixel art - OK for its day.
Gameplay: Can feel unfair at times - if you're not into retro games I'd avoid.
Sound: 8-bit stuff - beeps and boops.
Music: Limited number of tracks - can get annoying.
Controls: Easy to get used to. Works best with the Wii Remote (held sideways)
Score: 3/10
__________

Megaman (NES)
General Description: Side-scrolling shoot-em-up.
Graphics: Not so good pixel art - OK for its day.
Gameplay: Typical Megaman stuff - only 6 bosses though.
Sound: 8-bit stuff - beeps and boops.
Music: 8-bit stuff - beeps and boops.
Controls: Easy to get used to. Works best with the Wii Remote (held sideways)
Score: 3/10
__________

Kirby and the Crystal Shards (N64)
General Description:Side-scrolling platform/adventure
Graphics: Blocky polygons - not very well animated.
Gameplay: Pretty lame - the most interesting bit is sucking up enemies and trying to mix up Kirby's "copy" ability - once I'd figured most of them out I lost interest. The bosses are easy and unimpressive, no replay value.
Sound: Limited - "pops" and some Kirby noises.
Music: Some OK music, some bad.
Controls: Easy to get used to - GC controller.
Score: 1/10

So basically I'm saying DON'T DOWNLOAD KIRBY AND THE CRYSTAL SHARDS because it sucks - or does anyone out there disagree?

i'd recommend buying one of the sonic the hedgehogs, 1 or 2 are both great. i think 3 is supposed to be good too.
i too know how it feels to buy a crap VC game. i got donkey kong (the original game) and it sucks. BAD. i normally do research on the game before buying (i recommend this too)- unfortunately i learnt this after i got donkey kong.

that game was a blockbuster beyond all measure during its days of popularity . i don't think it's fair to say that the game sucks just because you can't catch pokemon in it .

very different . it's a no-action map (kind of like final fantasy) except that there are little enemy icons running around on it . if you touch one , or enter a cave or something , then you are brought to an action zone (side scrolling perspective) where you are able to walk around and jump and stab shit .

the most bizarre thing is that everytime you start a new game , or any time you die , you find yourself standing right in front of zelda . you have to go through the whole game just to rescue a girl that begins just a couple feet away .

true, but considering the quality of other games you can get for only 200 points more, i don't think it's worth it.
anyway its there for nostalgia more than anything i think.

you can buy 'points cards' which have a number on them  like a credit card- you enter the number in the shop channel and then you can buy wotever as long as you have enough points.
also, when you buy games, they have a leaflet in them and you can enter the code on the leaflet.( i think- i haven't done it that way yet)
games range from 500 points, 700 points and 1000 points.

Well, I'm far too lazy for detail, but here goes.

Super Metroid = 11/10.  'nuff said.

my vc games and ratings:

loz: link to the past- 10/10 (classic)
super mario world- 9.5/10 (also classic)
ninja gaiden- 8.5/10 (very hard, good music)
kirby's adventure- 9/10 (pretty awesome, especially fighting metaknight and the last boss. has some good music too imo)
ninja gaiden 2- 8/10 (super hard as well, more good music)
contra 3- 8/10 (again, very hard but very fun with 2 players)
super castlevania 4- 9/10 (cuz the music owns, and the game is classic)
landstalker- 7/10 (good and fun adventure game, but with a weird camera angle that can be annoying)
beyond oasis- 6/10 (fun, but can sometimes get boring, and there isnt that much story to it)
streets of rage 2- 8/10 (about a million and one times better than part 3)
legend of the mystical ninja- 3/10 (bleh, not very good at all. has co-op, which is a bit better, but not by much)
ninja spirit- 7/10 (very cool game with almost no story to it, the last level is almost impossible to beat though)
golden axe 1 and 2- 6/10 (fun with a friend, but otherwise, not so great. 1 and 2 are almost exactly the same game)
donkey kong country 1- 9/10 (very fun with and without a friend, great music)
donkey kong country 2- 9/10 (very similar to part one, dixie is a cool character, also has great music)

download kirby's adventure (NES) DND, its much better than the crap u played imo. and cheaper. and cooler.
