I'm predicting that there will be 125 fully unique and original characters all meticulously well made and balanced. This is based solely on the evidence that that would be awesome.
There will also be 125 clones making a nice even 250 characters.

Sakurai said in an interview early on in the game's development that he wanted to include at least 40 characters in the game. Also, third parties have apparently been trying to get characters in the game. So the word is that the original "one or two more third parties" may be thrown out the window and we may see a few more. I'm thinking between 40 and 45. 50 might be pushing it...but it would kick ass.

I'd be perfectly happy with only the 23 characters on the site.
Honestly, I'm fine with whatever. Brawl will be great regardless of how many characters there are.

true but id like to see a variety of charachters like multiple light weight and heavy weights a variety of speedsters a variety of balanced and so on
id like to be able to mix it up alittle but not have to change the complete type of character

As much as i like the 23 on the roster Neon, i have to admit i'm greedy and i also expect A LOT out of this game. They have pushed the release date, what now, 3 times? I agree Brawl will be awsome, but a massive roster would just multiply the awsomeness (yea i make words) by so much more. Bring on that 40-45 roster damnit hehe

It's definitely going to be more than 23, as this is less than was in the last game and we also haven't even gotten into hidden characters, which have been confirmed to be in the game.

I like the 23 confirmed characters so far, but i would be so unsatisfied with that little fighters. obviouslly there will be more than that though.

I hope there will be more then 2 3rd party characters. I think if they were to bring in a character it would have to be from sqaure enix. They have been working with nintendo since the very begining. If any characters came from square enix it would have to be cloud or chrono. It would most likely be chrono because he has been on a nintendo system. His games(chrono trigger and chrono cross) were two of the best games in history. As for characters im still waiting for the melee players to be announced. I think only a few of the clones will be back. Characters that need to comeback are gannondorf and mewtwo. They need more villian characters, why delete already well established villains? Anyways if clones do come back i hope they have a reworked moveset.

i am thinking that there will be about 35-40 and maybe 45-50 if they add clones which i hope they dont because i hate clones  .the number really doesent bother me as much as quality,if they have a decent 30-35 i would pick that over 45-50 because they might add clones to make a higher roster number.to quality goes over quantity. |

i wouldnt mind having a few clones as long as there under 10 of them it makes sense that there a clone(no captain falcon cloned as ganondorf) and they are useful in real matches not just for making the newbs sad(no pichu)

40-45 i recon. there was an interview early on where sakurai said no more than 50 characters so i dont think its that unlikely therel be a number close to that. the way i see it he would have said no more than 40 characters if it were 30-35 there wil be no clones but that doesnt mean all those characters are getting the boot, doc and pichu maybe but falco ganon roy young link were all good characters. theyl most likely change falco ganon and mabye roy and young link to come back.
having said that, im happy with the starting roster lol.
