Sheik's Special Moves

None of Sheik’s special moves have the power to send the opponent flying, nor do they heap large mounds of damage on the enemy. The absence of these characteristics is indicative of her character.

Sheik’s style relies on her great speed and midair attacks, both of which help her torment the opponent. As such, it seems sensible enough to say that you’ll use her special moves mostly as a means of keeping the enemy in check.

<Standard Special Move: Needle Storm>

Press the button once and Sheik will start readying needles.

To stop charging, press the shield button or wait until the attack is fully charged.

Then press the button again to make Sheik fling a stream of all the needles you readied!

If all six of Sheik’s needles hit cleanly, you’ll do 18% damage. It’s a pretty strong move, especially considering how hard the needles are to see. Keep in mind that if you attack with Needle Storm from too far away, the attack’s strength weakens.

Use Needle Storm in midair and Sheik throws her needles diagonally downward. It’s a great move for shutting down the opponent.

<Side Special Move: Chain>

This weapon is hidden up Sheik’s sleeve.

If you simply press the special-move button once, Sheik will just produce a floppy stringlike object and then quickly put it away. Not much to write home about. However, if you keep the special-move button held down and wiggle the Control Stick, you can make Sheik whip the chain around in any direction you like.

Round and round it goes.

If you move the chain around with a bit of speed, you can score lots of hits with it.

You’re left open for a moment before and after the attack and actually controlling the chain is a bit tricky. However, the tip of the chain is electrified and packs quite a punch when it hits. So when using the whip, remember—it’s all about the tip.

Once again, another great move for shutting down the opponent.

<Up Special Move: Vanish>

This is no mere magic trick.

Sheik vanishes amidst an explosion...

And teleports, reappearing in the direction you tilt the Control Stick!

The explosion that accompanies the beginning of this move has a good kick to it. There’s something really intolerable about getting KO’d by this move.

<Down Special Move: Transform>

This move transforms Sheik into Zelda. After the transformation is complete, you’re helpless for a moment, but during the flashing portion of the actual transformation, you’re completely invulnerable to attack.

"So I can dodge Final Smashes with this," you say? Indeed, such daring maneuvers are possible.

Transform into Zelda and effortlessly dodge Kirby’s Cook Final Smash!

Just remember that if you’re going to attempt this, you need to trigger the transformation well in advance. For example, were you attempting to dodge Kirby’s Cook Final Smash, you’d need to input the Transform command right about the time Kirby triggers his Final Smash.

Character Roll Call

For Smash’s Classic ending, the hundreds of characters go on parade in an enjoyable shooting game!

After you get the trophy for the character you cleared the game with...

The game starts!

First, the character you were using.

Next, all the other characters you’ve gotten.

Then the Assist Trophies come out...

...and Pokémon on parade.

After the items make their appearance...

Brrrraaap! The trophies arrive!

Each time you shoot a character name a single coin will pop out. For each picture of a character you hit, two coins will fly out.

When the whole game is over your total in coins gets divided and you get to take the resulting total back to use in the Coin Launcher game.

I wonder how many I got.

The harder the difficulty level you set at the beginning, the more coins you can get when your collection gets divided.

And, of course, the more trophies you have, the more targets you’ll have to shoot at!

Yeah...we usually do non-spoiler double updates in one thread. And I guess, people will talk more about Sheik than the roll call.

Back to the update, I love how Sakurai explained a few Sheik  strategies. Using those special moves do help Sheik. And like I said, transform DOES evade FSes. I think I'll practice that a little more. And btw, don't forget to read my transform jokes in the fan art section.

As for roll call, I usually go for the words not the picture as I thought you can get more coins...words are supposedly harder to hit than pictures... But I guess I was wrong. OK, now, I'll target those faces. Sorry my faves but I have to hit your face...

Anyway, great update: 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000/10!!!

<Up Special Move: Sheik Waft>

This is no mere magic trick.

Silent but violent?

Sheik's been eating too many Superspicy Curries! Her farts are now FAR more violent than Wario's!

As for roll call, I usually go for the words not the picture as I thought you can get more coins...words are supposedly harder to hit than pictures... But I guess I was wrong.

Ya I thought that too - but I noticed my coin count was lower at the end - this varifies my observations.

<Up Special Move: Sheik Waft>

Looks more like Samus Waft actually...you can't see Sheik, but you can see Samus above the explosion...

EDIT: About Vanish...the explosion is actually triggered by a deku nut...so why is the effect of the deku nut different from this...
It's like chikorita and ivysaur's razor leaf being different...

Yay Sheik! About time we had another update on her! Her "Vanish" move is downright sweet. I love to jump into a large group of people and up-B my way out of there Smiley. Its more powerful than in Melee - something I'm not complaining about!
I love the fact that you can now charge and hold Sheik's Needs. Its an appropriate and helpful addition.

The Roll Call thing was interesting - I had never noticed that there was a difference in the amount of coins for the words and pictures. I rarely hit the words, so I'm glad it turned out this way. For some reason, I find the words to be a lot harder to hit than the pictures. I'm not sure why. Maybe it has something to do with their lack of vertical space.
I'm surprised Sakurai never mentioned that you could rapid-fire by holding down the fire button. For those of you who didn't know about this, doing so sends out a steady stream of blasts (which is really the only way to go).

Yes, I really love how vanish is much more powerful now. Also, Zelda's Farore's Wind finally has some damage when teleportation is done.

You could always hold Sheik's needles...even in Melee. In Melee, you press R or L...whichever you use...to save the needles. I actually don't like the new style of needle storm. It lacks the aerial ability it had in Melee. By that, I mean, after pressing B in air, you can immediately send out needles. In Brawl, your character would start charging while your character lands...making it harder for quickly shot mid-air needles...

WHY SAKURAI!!! YOU SHOULD HAVE MENTIONED CHAIN IS A TETHER RECOVERY!!!

I hit the words more before...because I thought it would be more rewarding as the words are vertically challenged. But I guess Sakurai used the pics because when it comes to the trophies, it's harder. I also use rapid fire...pressing A a lot not only is tiring but it loosens the spring that makes the A button function...thus...destroying your controller...

It's not really cheap. You need a lot of timing. It's extremely hard to do against another zelda/sheik using light arrow... Light Arrow is just too quick when it gets a good alignment with you...for zelda and sheik's fs...it's better to jump.

I didn't know about the rapid fire.

And my GC pad has survived 7-8 years of abuse - I think it can take the frantic "input" that Brawl generates for a few more years - don't worry too much DJ.

Same here...my GC A button has survived much abuse too...

But I can't say the same about my control stick. After playing too many Zelda games...some of my controllers got destroyed...

OK...back to Sheik please...Smiley

Yes, I really love how vanish is much more powerful now. Also, Zelda's Farore's Wind finally has some damage when teleportation is done.
I love Farore's Wind, especially now since it deals some damage. Not only does it get you far, but it also clears the area for you. In fact, I once won a battle during the last few seconds using it, when both me and my opponent were at high percentage. We were both tied, and there were only 2 sec left. I had hit him off the stage past the range of view, so I then I teleported ("off" the screen!) and hit him. It was just enough to get the winning KO.

Hmmm, now that you mention it, I do vaguely remember being able to do that. Guess I never did it too often Wink. The needles are nice, but I don't find myself using them too often. With Sheik, I like to be right there, beating on the person - and not giving them a second to fight back.
I do need to learn how to effectively using the Needle Storm, though. Knowing how to use your every weapon in the most effective way is the surest way to victory.
