Hello,

I was a big fan of DK in the original game (I bought Melee, but I didn't like it as much as the first one for reasons here and there).  I had success with DK for Boss Battle Modes from Easy to Very Hard, but once I got to intense, I just couldn't get very far.  Namely, it's Rayquaza and Porky.  Those guys consistently cheap attack me pulling out rare attacks that I'm just not in position to counter.  Plus, Donkey's too slow and jumps too low to get avoid attacks faster characters can.  I guess I could take the time to learn a faster (but weaker) character.  Thoughts? Tips?  I watched some Youtube vids, but I don't imagine I'll ever reach that skill level.

maybe attack less aggressively . i haven't tried boss battles at that difficulty level , but thinking back to mega man , i remember that you can shoot once per cycle and kill a boss after 6 , or you can shoot 3 times per cycle and get killed every time .

try to focus on defense , maybe .

well im just gunna say this. personally i think DK sucks and it is probably going to be incredibly hard to do that. but first off. have you beaten very hard with NO continues? if so. then you're very good with DK =D If youve done that already i think i would recommend just the attack and retreat strategy. I beat very hard no continues with wario and thats what i did. Run in Uair then run away. and occasionally threw in a bike or two.

Hello,

FYI, Boss Battle mode doesn't allow you to continue.  And yes, I've beaten Very Hard with DK.  Intense just brings the challenge to a whole new level.

I know maybe 90-95% of all the attacks the bosses have.  I usually don't get hit by Cage.  I usually take 0-1 hits against Meta Ridley and Ridley, depending on how well I time the jumps.  The only attacks from the Hands I worry about are screw attacks and the index finger flick (not the poke, that one I love seeing because it's incredibly easy to avoid), but overall, I take about 20% damage or less against them unless I fail to avoid the screw attack.  Galleom I usually take 30% or less.

That leaves Duon, Rayquaza, and Porky.

With Duon, I think his own missiles can hurt him.  Either way, I anticipate his charge, and try to jump and helicopter to get to his other side.  This usually works well.  My ability to dodge his lasers vary.  His missiles are really hard to dodge, because they home well against slow DK, and while they're out, Duon attacks you.  Anyway, I'll try to get his missiles to hit him again, but this is a guy I sometimes do well against, and sometimes stink up the joint.

Then there's Porky and Rayquaza...

Start with Ray.  I know his basic attacks, and I know helicopter spin in this case is asking for trouble.  With DK, I make sure all my attacks are jumping (up + A).  It gives a chance to double jump if I have to, especially to dodge his tail spin.  I do a decent job of dodging his energy ball and his homing explosions (just stay away and keep moving, staying in the air as much as possible.)  Up and down dodges are easy to anticipate (just keep moving laterally while hopping in case he goes horizontal instead, when I double jump and air dodge).  The problem is what I call "change up" attacks.  It's like pitching in baseball; all his attacks seem to set up a random few attacks that are rare enough but are really killer if you're anticipating any of the above attacks I mentioned.  Sometimes, he does a standard bite while traveling to the other side.  Sometimes, he curls in the air and shoots lightning at me (hard to dodge).  He probably has another attack I'm forgetting... which is why he usually kicks my butt.  Even though I can dodge the big hits, the last time he worked me up from 70% to 314% before I got knocked out by one of his lighter attacks.

Then there's Porky.  I can't dodge his electric beam at all.  My only strategy for him is dodge the moving bomb people, and stay on the side that has less space between him and the edges or else he'll do the rapid spiking techniques or just mow me down with a charge.  If I can't get to that side, then I stay as far away as possible.  Only when I'm totally lucky can I beat this guy taking under 40%.  This is the only guy I helicopter spin against, because his rapid spiking attack takes off roughly 70-80%, and if he does that to me chances are I lose.

Hmm...it's spelt as SHEIK...

Anyway, turns out Sakurai gave some great advice. USE TOON LINK!!! Oh, and since you know how to dodge well, Boss Battles with Toon Link wouldn't be a problem.

I've gotten better with DK, but I still find ways to choke.

One thing I noticed is that the bosses get a little harder once you've beaten 7 or 8.  Galleon might be the worst offender.  If you get him early in the draw, he's really easy, but if you get him late, all his attacks come with less lag in between, and it's easy to get "caught in between" moves.  He's got a lot of hard hitting attacks, so if you're at 70% or so and saved that last heart for Tabuu, beware.

I found Porky to be a lot easier if he doesn't use his lightning attack (still don't know how to dodge it), and I've gotten better against Rayquaza.  Duon still seems randomly strong.  I know that even if I ever get passed the first nine, I'm pretty sure it'll take a lot of attempts to get passed Tabuu.

Maybe I just need to find a friend who's really good and we could do this together...  Two DK's who can dodge the attacks would spell certain doom for the bosses, since he's strong and more nimble than the other heavies.

Speaking of Bosses...have any of you gotten the special Boss trophies?

Master Hand - Clear Classic with 20 characters
Crazy Hand - Clear Classic on Intense Mode
Tabuu (Wings) - Clear Boss Battles with all characters
Galleom (Tank) - Clear Boss Battles on Intense Mode
Pig King Statue - Clear Boss Battles on Very Hard Mode

So have any of you gotten those trophies?

I've gotten Master Hand and Crazy Hand. Right now I'm trying to beat all star mode with everyone then do the intense and very hard difficulties for that.

I'm going to start doing boss battles with everyone after I finish All Star Mode.

I have Master Hand, Crazy Hand, and Pig King.  Working on Galleom right now, as you can see, and will attempt for Tabuu after I get Galleom.
