R.O.B.

R.O.B., the Robotic Operating Buddy from the NES, makes a grand entrance into the maelstrom!

His stately form has received a lot of attention, but it’s his air of gentle playfulness that really charms us.

<Standard Special Move: Robo Beam>



A straight, fast, piercing beam!

This ultrafast shooting move is one of R.O.B.’s key weapons.

It has a couple of interesting characteristics.



1. You can change the angle of the shot.

If the shot hits the ground, it can ricochet.

2. You can’t fire again immediately after you use it.

Fzzzzh. There’s just not enough energy.

3. If you don’t use it for a bit, it will become a Super Robo Beam.

This time he’s at full power.

He stores his energy in the diode on his head, so you can tell when he’s charged up by looking at the light there. Cooooool...

<Side Special Move: Arm Rotor>

Push the button repeatedly to increase the power of the spin and continue attacking. You can even deflect projectiles.

Ba-ching! This move is bound to come in handy...

<Up Special Move: Robo Burner>

This move allows R.O.B. to hover by using his booster jets.

His stand can now be used for flight!

Keep tilting the Control Stick up to continue using the Robo Burners. There’s a fixed amount of fuel though, and when it’s gone you won’t be able to fly. By using the Control Stick to control when the jets are on and off, you’ll be able to earn more mileage.

But when you land, your fuel gets replenished. You’ll have a full tank again in a little less than 1.5 seconds.

However, when your fuel level is low and you’re landing or refueling, it's the perfect time for others to attack you, so watch out!

If you’re launched into the air repeatedly, you might not have a chance to refuel and you won’t be able to recover.

Enemies might attack when you land.

<Down Special Move: Gyro>

An item you can charge up and throw? There aren’t too many of those.

More spin, more spin...



And throw!

Once it’s been charged up, the gyros are pretty powerful, but since they’re items, opponents can pick them up and use them, too. There can only be one on the screen at a time, so pick your moment and throw!

They’re also effective in Multi-Man Brawl. Use it with the Robo Beam for combos!

<Final Smash: Diffusion Beam>

This is R.O.B.'s Final Smash, Diffusion Beam. The beams that come out of R.O.B.'s eyes diffuse into a spiral manner. Instead of just shots, this attack continues for a certain amount of time. And, while diffusing beams, he can go on with attacking opponents in a regular manner. His entrance is very welcome


The last part was mine. I can't believe Sakurai left the Final Smash out...

First off, I'm glad to see Sakurai refer to R.O.B. by his initials. (Robot just didn't "click" to me)
Let me tell ya, Ive seen R.O.B. on the field of battle before, and he's far from a mere pushover.
From the limited video footage of him I've analyzed so far, it looks as if his recovery is one of the best out there.

His Robo Beam B special possesses an unrivaled area of horizontal range (if charged up to its maximum) and it can be angled...
I can't wait to seriously try out this "unconventional" fighter and hopefully use him competitively. 10 out of 10.

From that video, ROB is really a solid character. Too bad that PT killed his chances of winning...and the fact that Fox and Marth are the enemies. But still, I'm beginning to love ROB.

I'm asking myself the same question. But still, I took the initiative to explain the move here.

I support the idea as well, but I'm in no hurry since my mind has been on standby ever since I realized Brawl's almost here!
After all the delays, the cryptic (and sometimes lackluster) updates, and the accolade...it finally makes its way to us. Joy.

R.O.B. is an acronym of english words . the japanese langauge doesn't contain the words "robotic" , "operating" ,or "buddy" . neither does it's include the letters R , O , or B , so it wouldn't make sense for them to call it that .

I think Specs knows that bit of info. But still, Sakurai could have put the option of using "Robot" instead of "R.O.B." in the American version. However, there's one thing that made us sure it would be R.O.B. and not Robot:

The escort the Ancient Minister brings with him is a R.O.B squad?! There are some that fire beams and others that fire missiles.

Just to point out...why does he say that line that I put in bold text. Why would the Ancient Minister use R.O.B.s as its workers? And remember how the Ancient Minister moves somewhat robotic and does a hover like the Robo Burner. Hmm...I guess Sakurai does leave hints all over the place.

Tomorrow won't be Jigglypuff. From the way the hidden character updates have been conducted, Ganondorf will be next. I didn't say tomorrow either because I don't think Sakurai would do that consecutively...but I can be wrong. We don't know how Sakurai thinks. But it seems more than certain that Ganondorf is next.

Yeah - I thought this "guy" would be the LAST character reveal - hmmm...

Anyway - seeing "his" moves outlined like this make me think "he" actually does have some value - "he" has some pretty powerful moves - the beam ricochet gives it a new dimension anyways.

They remind me of the Wall-E trailer.  I'm actually pretty excited about R.O.B., from what I've seen he's an unexpected, unique, and powerful fighter.  It's certainly unexpected that you can change the angle and even skip the laser when it's aimed downward.  It's too bad we didn't get information on the Final Smash, as it's kind of unorthodox and doesn't seem too useful to me.
