I chose Sakurai because it was the closest to my "standard" theory. "An evil old guy" seems like an understatement. He'll doubtless be connected to the Hands, and likely as anything he will, to a greater or lesser extent, break the fourth wall. Reveal to the denizens of Nintendo's universe that they are naught but polygons, sic half-finished wireframes on people, et cetera.

I don't think he's going to do that. He's just interfering with the Trophy world. I see no indications that he can/will break the fourth wall.
I think he's just going to be the leader of whatever the subspace emmisary is.
