Well, what do we have here...?

Yes, that’s Super Mario Bros.

Several memorable characters compete for brawl supremacy – that’s Super Smash Bros. Brawl in a nutshell.

But what about the past fights for each of those characters? What were they like?

It may sound impossible, but you can experience those battles in Brawl as well!

That’s right, for the first time ever, you can play trial versions of these games by the miracle of Virtual Console!

That’s what Masterpieces is! Here you can relive the greatest battles of the biggest star characters through demo versions of their games.

Here are some of the titles you can expect to see available in Brawl. Crazy, isn’t it?!

Ice Climber
(1986, NES)

Super Mario Bros.
(1987, NES)

The Legend of Zelda
(1987, NES)

Kid Icarus
(1987, NES)

Kirby’s Adventure
(1993, NES)

Super Metroid
(1994,Super NES)

Lylat Wars
(1997, Nintendo 64)

Whoaaa. Makes my head spin just seeing all those. You won’t need to be connected to Nintendo WFC to play these games.

Just remember, there are some NES classics in there as demos, so expect some of the time limits on those games to be so short that all you can do is laugh at how hard they are.

I’m almost...at the top!

Ahaha! Oh man, out of time already?!

That’s what a good demo is all about. It gives you just enough to let you appreciate the game. Plus it’s a lot of fun to see just how far you can go before the little time that you have runs out.

If you take a liking to one of the trial versions, you can always buy the full game through the Shop Channel! You might even find a couple of titles that divert your attention from Brawl for a while.

Some titles come with save data.

But hmm, it seems there are still titles hiding in the Masterpieces section.

Titles?! What games don’t I know about?! That discovery is part of the fun, isn’t it?

Masterpieces are called masterpieces for a good reason, and each of the well-loved characters here come from a past that is worthy of that title.

To end, I’d like to take this opportunity to send my thanks to all the game creators and affiliated parties who helped in making this possible

My jaw dropped when I saw this.  That's probably because I thought they were full games until I read it   Tongue
Still, I suppose it's cool.

I think I'm underreacting, but somehow this doesn't excite me much. I suppose it depends how many games there are and how long you get to try them. I'm looking forward to trying Kid Icarus though

I actually found this update surprsingly awsome lol. I never got to play some of those older games before so this is going to be an awsome little find even if they are just demos.

Oh and maybe i'm just loking to hard into it but do you think this update hints at Falcos deconfirmation? They just so happened to decide on using a screen with Falco out of all the possible screens they could have taken and then they gave him the big "X" over his face with it saying DOWN over his head? Seems like a real big coincidence for them to have that in there eh? eh?

I am extremely disappointed that I stayed up for this! What a waste of time! I'm waiting for a update about smash bros and they tell us about a demo mode. A demo mode of games that have been out for years and we can already buy on virtual console? Man this really frustrates me. I don't mind if they put demos in the game to advertise so they can make a quick buck on VC but please don't waste an update telling us about it!!! Angry good night...

Could be. I think they showed it because it shows a smart bomb though. Perhaps showing off the fact that they've 'thought of everything'. Notice they also show world 1-1 for Super Mario Bros. Or maybe I'm just being an idiot.

Or both

This looks pretty cool, but I feel like its a scam. Sakurai wants you to play these demos, then pay money to buy the VC. I already have the Ice Climbers, Kirbys Dream Land, and Super Mario Bros, but right now im not gonna get all excited and buy some Wii pionts. 9.9/10

9.5/10 (4.25/5)
I find it funny that I own and play/used to play all but ice climbers, and Kid Icarus...either via Ne, SNES, Emulator, or 64...those bring back memories...sighs...

I didn't like the update that much but it is a very cool concept that you can play the games where it all began. I hope to play Ice Climber, Kid Icarus, Metroid just to see how far I go. Of course, from time to time, I'll play Mario again. HAHA. Yes, I won't play the Zelda demo (unless it does unlock something...haha) because I have the Zelda Collector's Edition. I haven't finished the older games yet. I hope to finish those after Brawl.

I didn't really like this update. Like shades said, I was waiting for a good Smash Bros. update and now I have to wait till Monday to get one.

Wario for President! But no Bowser Jr. or Ridley for Brawl!:( Oh well, there's always the next game, I guess.

another unessacary feature that they wasted their time with classics they didnt focus on the main course the Brawl they focused on something that gets us to buy wii points like darkmatter said

possible...but I think he meant that every time you unlock a character from a game that started in the nes days, you'll be able to play them.
